The society is planning a long-term social history project to trace the social, economic and cultural development of the three villages. We are starting with the village of Kirby and plan to use this as a pilot project for the other two villages. In the first stage, all the households in the central part of the village were visited to explain the nature of the project and to seek information and support from residents.
We plan to proceed, using archaeological evidence, architecture, written records and people’s memories. We are keen to encourage as many as possible to be part of this process. The response to date has been extremely positive.
To date, as part of the project we have produced a number of publications, Kirkby in 1837, Kirkby in 1911, Kirkby in 1939 and four editions of Snapshots.
