A documentary film about the history of ICI on Teesside was shown. After a short introduction, the film was divided into sections on various themes. It opened with footage from the 1930s and 40s including ‘Harvest from the Skies’, which detailed the beginnings of the ICI Billingham site and its bulk production of fertilizers. The next sections from the 1940s showed footage of social activities provided by ICI such as ‘Off to Wembley’ and ‘Billingham at Play’, and a summer outing to Scarborough for the older relatives of ICI employees. ‘The Queen at Wilton’ documented the opening of the Wilton chemical site in 1956. Footage from the 1970s showed how the company invested in many environmental improvements to its production sites, and how it marketed products. Finally, footage was shown of the demolition of parts of the Billingham site no longer needed by ICI.
The film was informative, entertaining and well received by the audience, despite occasional problems with the sound system during the screening.
