The group welcomed a good turnout of members and visitors to hear Maxine Willett talk about her role in the Norton Conyers Estate Papers Archiving project at NYCRO that had been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund 2015-2016. As the lead / indeed the only paid archivist it had been a challenging project as the collection is quite unique for the family and social history in general in that it covers 6 centuries of history (1404 being the oldest document), all based on the same property near Ripon during that time. Maxine did thank the body of volunteers who had helped!

We were given a taste of just how complex family relationships can be particularly when the men retain the same name and also the impact of marriage on the both the size of the estate (properties at Nunnington and Kippax etc) and the problems of maintenance for future generations.

An enjoyable evening ….
