On a sunny afternoon, 64 members attended this meeting at the Priory, at a time when it was closed to the general public. In view of the numbers involved, we were split into 2 groups, one invited to look around the visitor centre while our guide took the other on a tour of the old buildings. During the course of the tour, which took around an hour, we were told of the history of the Priory from its inception in 1398 to the present time. We were given a detailed explanation of the layout of the site with the purpose of the various buildings and were given a fascinating insight into the lives of the Carthusian monks.
Barbara Owen was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate about her subject and her efforts were much appreciated by all concerned.
Afterwards,several of the members enjoyed a picnic in the garden of the Priory.
