Where | Great Broughton Village Hall | Type of Event | Illustrated Talk |
When | Monday 20th November 2023 | Tutor | John Davies |
The lecture was delivered by LHG member John Davies who has given the LHG photographic presentations on a regular and frequent basis over the last few years.
The lecture covered the villages of Old Battersby, Ingleby Greenhow, Great Broughton and Kirkby. There was, in keeping with the title, a mix of old and new photographs. What was striking were the changes that became evident. Examples include an ancient trod that is now a pavement, fields that now have houses and old houses that no longer exist. And then the changes of use such as pubs, shops, schools and chapels that are now houses. The extent of change, and the speed of change, was well demonstrated.
There was large audience. The room was full and extra chairs had to be added. The audience was attentive and entertained. There is a level of participation by the audience we do not usually experience on other lecture evenings. A lot of members and visitors have a contribution to make from their own memories. An enjoyable evening.
